Penguins are the Cutest
I’ve seen lots and lots of lessons online about penguins but for some reason, I never did them. Then I read this book to my kinders:
I loved this story about a girl who follows these penguins from “onstage” at a zoo to “backstage” and finds out they love to dance. I thought it would be fun to make penguins but add some flair. My plan was to have them make regular penguins on the ice and then add feathers, sequins, bows, and sunglasses. My idea changed though after they made their penguins. They were adorable.
I wanted to add a little bit more oomph so I used pages from an old French novel we had in the school library. So cute.
I just couldn’t bear the thought of the students potentially ruining their penguins. You know how it is, give students some feathers and sequins and well, it just gets messy. So I had them redo the assignment. This time on plain construction paper. This was actually really good because it was review of cutting and pasting concepts for some, and for the students who missed the first assignment, they could still end up with a penguin.
Such characters. I love the accessories. Some of them look like they had one too many… fish. And of course, a bulletin board display to show them off.
They are so cute, my older students want to do them too.
